Breast Lift
A breast lift restores youthful shape and position, creating a naturally balanced silhouette that feels aligned with how you want to look and feel.
Procedure Overview
Over time, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes and gravity can all contribute to breasts losing their firmness and sitting lower on the chest. A breast lift (mastopexy) is designed to elevate and reshape the breast tissue, while repositioning the nipples to a more youthful height. The result is a refreshed, naturally uplifted appearance that enhances body confidence without necessarily increasing size.
For some women, a breast lift alone provides the ideal solution. Others may choose to combine it with breast augmentation for added volume, or with implant removal to reshape and refine the breast after implants. Every lift is carefully tailored to your anatomy, lifestyle, and goals, with incisions placed as discreetly as possible. The outcome is breasts that look and feel more in harmony with your body.
What to expect
-
Dr. de Chalain will assess breast shape, skin elasticity, nipple position, and overall proportions. You’ll discuss your goals in detail, and he will recommend the type of lift and incision pattern best suited to achieve them. In some cases he may recommend a fat transfer or a small breast implant in addition to the lift to achieve your desired outcome.
-
As breast lift surgery is performed under general anaesthetic, you’ll need to fast before your procedure. You may also need to pause certain medications or supplements. You will be given clear pre-operative instructions to ensure you feel prepared.
-
Incisions are made around the areola and, depending on the amount of lift required, may extend vertically or into the breast crease. Excess skin is removed, the breast tissue is reshaped, and the nipple and areola are lifted to a higher, more natural position. Excellent care is taken during surgery to minimise scars.
-
When you wake, you’ll be wearing a supportive surgical bra to minimise swelling and provide comfort. Most patients go home the same day. It’s normal to experience tightness, bruising, and mild discomfort in the first few days.
-
You’ll be encouraged to rest while keeping active with gentle movement to support circulation. Swelling and bruising gradually resolve over the first two weeks. Most women return to light activities within two to three weeks, with more strenuous exercise avoided for four to six weeks. The final shape continues to refine as the breasts settle. You may experience a temporary loss of sensation in the breasts and the nipple area – this typically will resolve within two to three months as the nerves heal.
-
Follow-up appointments will be scheduled at one week, six weeks, three months and then a year to monitor healing, remove sutures if necessary, and review your results. Our team will advise on scar care and long-term support to maintain your results.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
A breast lift can be a good option for people experiencing sagging or drooping of the breasts due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, or genetics. Ideal candidates are generally healthy, at a stable weight, and want to restore a more lifted, youthful shape without necessarily changing their breast size.
-
A breast lift reshapes and repositions the breast tissue and nipple to sit higher on the chest, creating a firmer, more lifted contour. It does not add volume, but it can make the breasts look rounder and more youthful.
-
A breast lift doesn’t remove significant breast tissue, but some volume can be lost as excess skin is removed and the breasts are reshaped. This often gives the appearance of slightly smaller but more lifted and proportional breasts.
-
Yes. Many patients combine a breast lift with breast augmentation (to add volume) or breast reduction (to remove tissue). This allows for both improved position and size to match your aesthetic goals.
-
Some scarring is inevitable, but Dr. de Chalain will place incisions strategically, usually around the areola, vertically down the breast, and sometimes in the crease underneath. Scars typically fade significantly over time and can be concealed by bras or swimwear.
-
Most patients return to light activities within 1–2 weeks. Swelling and tightness gradually improve over several weeks, with final results becoming more apparent after a few months. Strenuous activity should generally be avoided for 4–6 weeks.
-
Yes. In most cases, the nipple-areola complex is moved higher on the breast to create a natural, youthful shape. This is done carefully to preserve blood supply and sensation as much as possible.
-
The results of a breast lift are long-lasting, but your breasts will continue to age naturally over time. Maintaining a stable weight and wearing good support can help prolong the results.
-
Some people retain the ability to breastfeed after a lift, but it’s not guaranteed. If breastfeeding is a priority for you, it’s important to discuss this with Dr. de Chalain during your consultation.
-
A breast lift focuses on repositioning and reshaping existing tissue, while augmentation adds volume with an implant. If you want both more fullness and a lifted position, the two procedures can be performed together.
