Neck Lift

A neck lift refines and rejuvenates the contours of the neck and jawline, creating a smoother, more defined profile that restores balance to the face.

Procedure Overview

Over time, the skin and muscles of the neck can lose firmness, creating sagging, banding, or fullness beneath the chin that can make the face appear older or heavier. A neck lift is designed to address these concerns by tightening the underlying muscles, removing or redistributing excess fat, and redraping the skin for a natural, youthful result.

Many people choose a neck lift when they feel that their neck and jawline no longer reflect how energetic and vibrant they feel on the inside. Whether performed on its own or combined with a facelift or chin procedure, a neck lift can restore a graceful contour and enhance facial harmony.

What to expect

  • At your first appointment, Dr. de Chalain will assess the quality of your skin, muscle tone, and overall facial balance to determine whether a neck lift is the right approach. This is also the time to discuss your goals, ask questions, and explore whether other procedures may be recommended in combination.

  • Because a neck lift is usually performed under general anaesthetic, you’ll need to fast for several hours beforehand and avoid certain medications as advised. You’ll also be given guidance on preparing your home for recovery, including arranging someone to drive you home.

  • Small incisions are typically made around the ears and sometimes beneath the chin. Through these, the surgeon tightens the platysma muscles, repositions or removes fat deposits, and re-drapes the skin to create a smoother neckline. The procedure usually takes between two and three hours, although the overall procedure time will be longer if the neck lift is performed as part of a facelift.

  • You’ll wake up with dressings or a supportive band around the neck to protect the area and minimise swelling. Most patients go home the same day, though some may stay overnight if needed. Temporary tightness or bruising is common at this stage.

  • Bruising and swelling usually peak in the first week and gradually subside. Most people feel comfortable returning to work and social activities within two to three weeks, though full healing and refinement of results continue for several months.

  • You’ll have follow-up visits in the days and weeks after your procedure so your surgeon can monitor healing, remove sutures, and ensure you’re recovering smoothly. Your first follow-up is scheduled for one week after the procedure, although we are happy to see you sooner if you need. If your sutures require removal, this will be done one week after the procedure. Additional check-ins may be scheduled over the following months to track your long-term results.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A facelift targets sagging in the face, especially the cheeks, jawline, and jowls, while a neck lift focuses on the area below the jawline. Many patients combine the two procedures to achieve a seamless transition between the face and neck.

  • It’s designed to correct loose or crepey skin, muscle banding (“turkey neck”), and fat deposits under the chin or along the jawline. The goal is a smoother, firmer neck contour and a sharper jawline.

  • A neck lift is ideal for people bothered by visible signs of ageing in the neck area but who may not need a full facelift. It’s suitable for both men and women in good overall health with realistic expectations about the outcome.

  • Small incisions are made discreetly around the ears and sometimes beneath the chin. The underlying platysma muscle is tightened, excess skin is removed, and in some cases, fat is sculpted or repositioned to refine the neck’s shape.

  • Most patients experience mild swelling and tightness for one to two weeks. Light activities can resume after several days, with most people returning to work within two weeks. Final results become visible once residual swelling has subsided.

  • Incisions are placed in natural creases and along the hairline, making scars very discreet once healed. Over time, they typically fade to near invisibility.

  • Results generally last 8–12 years, depending on factors like age, genetics, and lifestyle. While ageing continues, the neck will remain firmer and more defined than if surgery had not been performed.

  • Yes. It’s often paired with a lower-face lift for a cohesive result, or with chin liposuction, eyelid surgery, or skin resurfacing to further enhance the overall rejuvenation.

  • Costs vary depending on your surgical plan and whether the neck lift is combined with other procedures. A detailed quote is provided after your consultation. For more information on how we price our procedures, see our Pricing Information page.
