Dermal Fillers

Restoring softness, structure and balance with subtle, carefully placed volume.

Procedure Overview

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore or enhance facial volume, soften lines, and support the natural contours of the face. Most modern dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body and plays an important role in skin hydration and elasticity.

Rather than simply “filling” lines, contemporary filler treatments focus on supporting facial structure and restoring balance. When used conservatively, dermal filler can soften shadows, replenish areas that have lost volume over time, and improve harmony between facial features, without changing your underlying identity.

Dermal filler may suit people who are noticing volume loss, deeper lines, or changes in facial shape related to aging, weight loss or genetics. It is not about creating exaggerated features, and it is not always the right solution for every concern. A thoughtful assessment is essential to determine whether filler or another approach is most appropriate.

What to expect

Your treatment begins with a detailed consultation, where your practitioner will assess your facial anatomy, skin quality, and areas of volume change, and talk through your concerns and expectations. Any treatment plan is developed with a strong emphasis on proportion, subtlety, and long-term outcomes.

The procedure itself typically takes 20–30 minutes. Dermal fillers often contain a local anaesthetic, and additional numbing may be used to improve comfort. Sensations vary, but most people find the treatment manageable.

After treatment, some swelling, redness, or bruising is common, particularly in the first few days. These effects are usually temporary and can often be concealed if needed. While there is minimal downtime, it’s generally recommended to avoid strenuous exercise and heat exposure for a short period after treatment.

Results are visible immediately, though the final outcome becomes clearer once swelling settles. Depending on the area treated, a review appointment may be suggested to ensure the result feels balanced and settled.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When used conservatively and placed with care, dermal filler should look natural and proportionate. The aim is to support your existing features, not to create an obvious or exaggerated result.

  • This depends on the product used, the area treated, and individual factors such as metabolism. Results typically last between 6 and 18 months.

  • Hyaluronic acid fillers have a strong safety profile when administered by trained and experienced practitioners. As with any medical treatment, there are risks, which will be discussed during your consultation.

  • Yes. One advantage of hyaluronic acid fillers is that they can be dissolved if needed, providing an added margin of safety.

  • No. Anti-wrinkle injections work by relaxing muscles that cause expression lines, while dermal fillers are used to restore volume and support structure. They are often used together but serve different purposes.

  • Dermal filler is not permanent. Some people choose to maintain results with periodic treatments, while others prefer to reassess over time. There is no obligation to continue.
