Buttock Lift

A refined approach to restoring contour, balance, and lift to the lower body.

Procedure Overview

A buttock lift is a highly tailored procedure designed to refine and restore contour, addressing skin that has stretched or sagged over time due to weight change, ageing, or genetics. The aim is not to create an artificial look, but to enhance your natural proportions, bringing a smoother, more lifted silhouette in harmony with the rest of your body.

Your treatment plan will be shaped by the size, contour, and skin quality of your buttocks, as well as your personal goals. In some cases, liposuction alone may achieve the desired refinement, while others may benefit from fat transfer (sometimes called the “Brazilian Butt Lift”) to enhance shape and balance. For those with more significant laxity, a surgical lift removes excess skin and repositions the remaining tissue to create a firmer, more youthful outline. Whatever the approach, the goal remains the same: results that feel elegant, natural, and uniquely tailored to your particular needs.

What to expect

  • Your consultation is an opportunity to explore your goals and learn whether a buttock lift is the right approach. Dr. de Chalain will examine the area, consider factors such as skin elasticity and overall body balance, and guide you through the options. Sometimes a combination of procedures may be recommended for the most harmonious outcome.

  • Because this surgery is performed under general anaesthetic, you’ll need to fast for a specified period beforehand. You may also be advised to adjust or pause certain medications, and you’ll be given personalised preparation instructions. This is also the time to plan for support at home during the early stages of recovery.

  • An incision is made along the natural crease at the top of the buttocks or extending across the lower back, allowing the surgeon to remove excess skin and reposition underlying tissue. The skin is then lifted and secured to create smoother, more defined contours. Care is taken to place incisions where they can be concealed by clothing or swimwear. In some cases it may be possible to place the incision underneath the buttocks where they meet the thighs, so that the scar is hidden in the natural crease.

  • You’ll wake in a recovery setting, with dressings in place and sometimes a compression garment to support healing. Depending on the extent of the procedure, you may be able to go home the same day or require an overnight stay. Some discomfort and swelling are normal, and our team will ensure you are comfortable and supported.

  • Most patients return to light daily activities within 2–3 weeks, although sitting for long periods will need to be limited at first. Bruising and swelling gradually subside, and you’ll be advised to avoid strenuous activity for several weeks. Over time, you’ll see a more refined, balanced contour emerge, with results continuing to improve as healing progresses.

  • Our team will schedule follow-up visits beginning within the first week after your procedure. At these appointments, your progress will be assessed, sutures may be removed, and you’ll receive guidance tailored to your recovery. Multiple visits are typical, ensuring a smooth and supported healing journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A traditional buttock lift focuses on tightening and lifting sagging skin and tissue to create a firmer, more youthful contour. It does not add volume. A Brazilian Butt Lift, on the other hand, uses fat grafting to increase fullness and reshape the buttocks. In some cases, both techniques can be combined for optimal results.

  • This procedure is best suited for individuals who have experienced significant weight loss, age-related skin laxity, or sagging after pregnancy. Ideal candidates are at or near their goal weight, in good general health, and have realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve.

  • The incisions are typically made along the upper buttock crease or lower back, where scars can be concealed beneath underwear or swimwear. The exact placement depends on your anatomy and the amount of lift required.

  • Because excess skin and sometimes fat are removed during the lift, the buttocks may appear smaller or less full. However, they will look firmer, smoother, and more proportionate. If desired, volume can be restored with fat grafting or implants.

  • You’ll need to avoid sitting or lying directly on your buttocks for about two weeks to allow proper healing. Most patients return to light activity after two weeks and resume normal exercise around six weeks post-surgery. Compression garments are usually worn to reduce swelling and support the new contour.

  • Results are long-lasting, especially with stable weight and healthy lifestyle habits. While the natural ageing process will continue, the lifted contour typically endures for many years.

  • Scarring is an unavoidable part of surgery, but incisions are carefully placed to be as discreet as possible. Over time, scars tend to fade and flatten, especially with good scar care and sun protection.

  • Yes. Many patients combine a buttock lift with a tummy tuck, thigh lift, or body lift for a more comprehensive reshaping after weight loss or pregnancy. Dr. de Chalain can tailor a surgical plan to address multiple areas in a safe, staged approach.

  • The cost of the procedure can vary depending on the approach taken and whether implants, fat grafting or liposuction are included as part of the procedure. A detailed quote will be provided to you after your consultation. For more information on how we price our procedures, see our Pricing Information page.
